American Fiction" is Cord Jefferson's hilarious directorial debut which confronts our culture's obsession with reducing people to outrageous stereotypes. Jeffrey Wright stars as Monk, a frustrated novelist who's fed up with the establishment profiting from "Black" entertainment that relies on tired and offensive tropes. To prove his point, Monk uses a pen name to write an outlandish "Black" book of his own, a book that propels him to the heart of hypocrisy and the madness he claims to disdain.

I rented this for $3 after the Oscars got me interested. I'm irritated that I wasted even that much on it. The story is just a string of uninteresting tropes. Less than halfway through I was already checking how much time was left. There's not one thing that stands out with this movie (dialogue, acting, music, direction). I did laugh maybe twice, so there's that, but even so this should not be branded as a comedy.

Super! American Fiction is a thought-provoking film that delves into the complexities of Black representation, identity, and marketability in literature and media. Directed by Cord Jefferson and based on Percival Everett’s novel Erasure, the movie offers a satirical exploration of how art from marginalized communities is perceived by the white elite. American Fiction offers a blend of satire, drama, and introspection, inviting viewers to reflect on the complexities of storytelling.

This was a fantastic movie. I rarely give movies a 5 star rating, but this was it! The deepness of how Black America is written, the comedy was spot on and done on various levels. This is a must see movie for anyone!
