This is one of the worst debuts of any horror director I've seen. The premise is farcical ("mothers" birthing rat/bats as demons), the pacing is slow, the two story elements don't correlate, the execution is weak, and the reveal is a letdown. The only redeeming factors of this tortuous mess is the acting with Alec Secareanu (Tomaz) and Imelda Staunton (Sister Claire).

I liked the plot twists and simple horror. The birthing of the bat was pretty intense even for the avid horror buff. But I liked the film, and would watch it again. As for the directors debut, I think he's on the right track and should keep up the good work. I gave this 3 stars only because I'm a tough critic when it comes to horror.

This movie isn't worth the film stock it's printed on. It's beyond farcical. It's a dismal directorial debut for a director who, I'm assuming, is pursuing a career in the filmmaking profession. Take some good advice, don't waste your money or your time on this stinker.
