You've got to hand it to her, she had a fantastic voice. I'm not a huge fan of her music, but this movie did hold my interest. Just wasn't overly wowed by it.

This movie offers the viewers understanding that "Amy" was not always the repulsive addicted mess she was when most came to know of her. She was, sadly, a talent far beyond what most people are aware of. Her story is a sad and typical tale of a little girl lost after the divorce of her parents wild mostly as a cry for the boundaries she needed to feel loved. In her case she was able to express her needs and disappointment through her writing and performing which to watch evolve is truly awe inspiring.

This, to me surprisingly, was a documentary in almost the most strict sense. There was no moralizing about the subject matter, simply a recollection of facts as documented and by those involved. Tacitly it implies that the media attention played a role in Ms. Winehouse's downfall, though that may mainly be by personal projection on to the film. It seems to be easy to see how one could draw other conclusions from the events portrayed. Then if one were to watch this simply as that, it denies personal agency in events. My only (mainly ethical) quibble is to how the paparazzi footage may have been obtained, as feeding the beast rankles me. Regardless, a welcome addition to the library (worth repeating, a surprising one from my vantage).
