This is based on the diaries of Anna. Tho musical was "fun," it was also untrue. However, it was THAT musical that launched Rita Moreno's career on the stage, as she played TupTim in the musical. For her performance in The King and I ---Rita was then asked to play the lead Anita in West Side Story. To learn more, one can read the diaries of Anna Leonowens, which THIS version is based upon. Have always loved this version because of its truth. Or as close as Jody could get to the truth.

A beautiful movie no matter when I watch it or how many times I see it. I still cry at the ending even knowing what's coming.
