ANTARCTICA: A YEAR ON ICE is a visually stunning journey to the end of the world. Guided by nature photographer Anthony Powell, we experience firsthand the beauty and brutality of the most severe environment on Earth along with the hardy and devoted people who call it home year-round. Capturing epic battles against hellacious storms, quiet reveries of nature's grandeur, and everyday moments of humanity, this one-of-a-kind documentary reveals a close-knit international community of scientists, craftsmen and laborers that thrive in a land few have ever experienced. Filmed over 10 years on the continent, ANTARCTICA combines spectacular photography and a deeply personal adventure to capture the splendor of the frozen planet like no film before it.

I wasn't sure if I would like a movie about one of the coldest, remotest places on earth but it was absolutely stunning. Hard to believe this was the work of an amateur. Saw it at the Dartmouth Hop and had the pleasure of listening to the panelists who had been there. Very enlightening. Made me care about something I didn't really care about before watching the movie.

I didn't know exactly what I was getting; and I like it that way sometimes. This was a refreshing and reality experience based documentary. The dark can get very cozy and enclosed . For 6 months with almost 2 months in absolute darkness of average temperature of - 40 degrees fahrenheit has to be experienced to be comprehended. The open insightfulness of the human experience conveyed by the citizens of Mcmurdo Station has got me wanting the experience ; - for it's oddity, cold , and fellowship and dependence on each other ; IF ONLY, there were more women; or none at all.

I have always wanted to understand life at the bottom of the globe. I had no idea there were so many people on that vast continent of ice. I found the time lapse photography of breathtaking scenery to be exceptional. The perspective of life at McMurdo Station was interesting and left me wishing I had been brave enough to try a year or two down under. I highly recommend this Documentary. I have watched it multiple times and find something new each time.
