About this movie

Julian Schnabel’s At Eternity’s Gate is a journey inside the world and mind of a person who, despite skepticism, ridicule and illness, created some of the world’s most beloved and stunning works of art. This is not a forensic biography, but rather scenes based on Vincent van Gogh’s (Academy Award® Nominee Willem Dafoe) letters, common agreement about events in his life that present as facts, hearsay, and moments that are just plain invented.

Terrific film. My only complaint? A bit of overkill with the handheld camera effect. Maybe the director was trying to better illustrate Vincent's turbulent reality. Who knows. At any rate, Willem Dafoe is awesome, the soundtrack is awesome, and Vincent van Gogh is awesome.

Great story and brilliant acting. Although the fame jumps around way to much it felt like I was watching a iPhone video that was taken on a boat in a storm. I see why they shot this way but it was over done. It felt like watching the "blair witch project" filming wise.

I liked the movie alot. Not a huge fan of the hand held style of filming imo, at some points it becomes almost awkward and over the top. Then again after finishing the film it all sorta makes sense and I can see why the director choose to film the picture this way. Would recommend to anybody who likes a good historically based film. And you can't go wrong with dafoe on the cast.
