This film is beautiful in its' simplicity - the arresting camera work and engaging performances do a fantastic job of enveloping you in the story of this portion of Van Gogh's life. Willem Dafoe is great fun to watch play this complex character, and Mads Mikkelsen shines in his appearance as the priest. If you enjoy a more imaginative experience that allows you to be an active participant in the film rather than being led on a guided tour, this film may be for you. Challenging in some ways, but allows you to draw your own conclusions.

Style + Dafoe's Performance makes this very watchable. Have to go in with an open mind, without expecting a Hollywood style of filmmaking, and it will be more enjoyable.

Very choppy. Very dry. Very boring.
