Vivien Leigh und Clark Gable stehen im Mittelpunkt dieses Nationalepos vom Leben auf den Südstaaten-Plantagen während des Amerikanischen Bürgerkriegs. David O. Selznick, Produzent dieses Jahrhundertwerks, besetzte die weibliche Hauptrolle an der Seite des damals schon bekannten Clark Gable mit der praktisch unbekannten Vivien Leigh. Nach Fertigstellung dieser Mammut-Produktion, die für die damalige Zeit die ungeheure Summe von fast 4 Millionen Dollar verschlang, fand die Uraufführung als großes Spektakel 1939 in Atlanta statt. Ganz Amerika wurde vom Scarlett-Fieber gepackt. "Vom Winde verweht" war eine absolut internationale Erfolgsstory und gilt noch immer als Meisterstück filmischer Erzählkunst.

Despite being a a classic Hollywood film with the infamous quote: "Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn," from Rhett Butler, it has aged poorly in recent years. I loathe the character Prissy who is a horrible portrayal of African-Americans during the Reconstruction Era. Scarlett O'Hara is a selfish, vapid spoiled woman who really needs an attitude adjustment and reality check. The KKK Clan references are unsettling to say the least. It's overrated, but the costumes are nice.

This movie was made in 1939 that over 80 yr go. There was no CG or cut re do big scenes roll and hope for the best and this movie is one of the greatest every made. If u have people still talking about it now. Nothing made like this anymore. ❣❣❣❣

I love this movie, & the book as well. Both are very classic & entertaining. I admit I do not like slavery or the idea of it, but we can not change history. We can learn from it & grow into better people because of it. Mammy was my favorite character. I wish I could have met her in real life. She was funny & so full of life! I just love her.
