In the deadly game of international espionage, an elite corps of anonymous operatives relentlessly battle in wars of proxy on behalf of their nation states. In a field dominated by high-tech tools, the most valuable asset is the human one - and the most prized of these is a lethally trained agent code-named Sever (Lucy Liu "Charlie's Angels," "Payback"). When Sever inexplicably goes rogue and turns against her agency handlers, she sets in motion a global hunt by her former superiors to terminate her before she can reveal information that could alter the course of history. Only one man has the skills to track down the fugitive Sever: the brilliant and dogged former FBI man-hunter Jeremiah Ecks (Antonio Banderas "Spy Kids," "The Mask of Zorro"). Once preeminent in his field, Ecks resigned from the agency when his wife was killed in an explosion, which left him a guilt-ridden emotional shell of himself.
