This should have been released in the theater! The greatest Batman story done in theater quality animation. Very faithful to the graphic novel. A stellar voice cast. Peter Weller is fantastic as the old Batman that returned after being away so long. Many of the quirks from the Frank Miller graphic novel are still there. Some hints to the 80's remain, but that is part of the story. It only offsets a timeless quality to the work, but since not too many details are spoken future generations will not get those points and it will be truly timeless. Fantastic movie!

This is an amazing adaptation of the Miller masterpiece. All of the important beats are there, the art is on point and the voice acting is impeccable. I never get tired of this story, especially in its animated form. I love all of the dcu animated features, but this one is my current favorite. I only hope the same attention to detail is applied to the Killing Joke...in which case I may have a new favorite. Every batman fan needs to see (and read)the dark knight returns. Even non fans would love this story.

This movie nails Batman in the tail end of his career. Seeing Year One and finally this movie, I've grown to appreciate Frank Miller's interpretations, even if he portrays most women in an....odd light. However, there's one thing this movie (and source material) falters at: its portrayal of Superman. Supes would never sell out the League and become a government stooge. But this movie is simply for Batman fans. So Superman people, if you feel like you're going to hate this movie, well you probably will.
