When Mary (Amy Seimetz) returns to work after maternity leave, her workaholic husband, Paul, takes charge of their sleepless baby, Pearl. Pearl's disregard for napping prevents Paul from finishing his screenplay. Mary misses Pearl terribly, but her salary and benefits are the family's only security. As Paul's attachment to Pearl intensifies, his disinterest in his work grows. Money becomes tighter and Mary is left holding the bag. Talent, talent, talent! Brilliant acting, from not only the adults, but the 4-month-old girl -- how the hell did they do that? This was actually a great indie! The acting is so genuine, you wonder if this just a real couple telling the story of their life. The character arcs are so subtle and natural, yet it feels hits you just as hard as any high-budget drama. And it doesn't try to be bigger than it is. Simply a smart, honest piece of work that seems like a slice of life, but to a trained eye you can see why you're being drawn in -- it's a solid story. As a filmmaker and family man, this really made me rethink my life, and I highly recommend it.
