The battle to take control of an island from the Japanese in World War II is the framework for this hard-edged and thoughtful look at warfare produced, directed, and headlined by Cornel Wilde. As the bloody conflict rages on, both sides of the battlefield find their fleeting memories of civilian life to be their only comfort. Through a series of flashbacks, this film illustrates the humanity of the solidiers involved in the war effort. Co-starring Rip Torn and Burr DeBenning. Based on Peter Bowman's novel of the same name.
