The battle to take control of an island from the Japanese in World War II is the framework for this hard-edged and thoughtful look at warfare produced, directed, and headlined by Cornel Wilde. As the bloody conflict rages on, both sides of the battlefield find their fleeting memories of civilian life to be their only comfort.
