I read this book like two years ago. I cried at the end while I was in my dentist chair. I was so afraid that the movie would blow it so I didn't watch it. I finally gave in and watched it. Its a short book with allot more info. I don't understand why they couldn't have made it the same, but we all know books are better. I recommend reading this book first. It is bittersweet with a slight addition and change in the ending.

I enjoyed the movie so much that I bought it, but the second time through I saw that I must have been in a daze earlier, it's not as good as I thought. Reading the book it was wonderful, such a strong novel, but this trimmed down version changed things that wasn't so much that they left things out, it's that they were totally different. Making Anna a 'BD' instead of 'WT', adding in kent's whole dad thing when it was a brief mention of his grandfather instead, not expanding on lindsey's reasons for tormenting juliette, making juliette fundamentally ugly and crazy, talking in the woods instead of the bathroom to her.. kent didn't even had any old clothes, like there wasn't anything initally weird about him, the girls were supposed to have matching outfits on cupid day, and the cupids were supposed to be dressed up more, there was significance in who gave her kents rose but it didnt matter in the movie. just so many things! ahhh

It's fantasy, but it treats secret regrets with amazing accuracy. Anyone who went through high school can probably relate to some of the themes. The dichotomy between what people are supposed to enjoy and approve of and how they really feel, sometimes without even knowing it, gets explored in a touching and profound way.
