In the acclaimed sequel to Planet of the Apes, another astronaut (James Franciscus) crashes through the time barrier searching for the missing Taylor (Charlton Heston). This was my favorite, go-to "Apes" film for several years. It's a leftovers type of sequel. Like Friday night's awesome dinner becomes Sundays so-so lunch. They threw the same basic elements into the oven, heated them back up and served it up with a fresh set of sides. The angry Ape general, the destroyed underground NYC labyrinth and the skinless Mutant humans; all make for a solid reheat. Also, this Apes film features the most depressing, downbeat ending in the entire series imo 💯

The first one was better. Zira and Cornelius were seen less in this one. Oh yeah. . . I still don't know why the apes look better than those 'people'.
