In the tiny town of Carthage, assistant funeral director Bernie Tiede is one of the town's most beloved residents. When Bernie befriends Marjorie Nugent, a sour yet affluent older widow, the two become inseparable - and Marjorie increasingly dependent. As Bernie's extroverted personality becomes stifled, we realise that even the nicest guys can be pushed too far.
