About this movie

Funnyman filmmaker Carl Reiner, who put Steve Martin, George Burns and John Candy through their comedic paces in one hit movie after another, strikes again with this warmly outrageous musical comedy. The title role gives dazzling Robert Lindsay (Hornblower, Jericho) a screen-debuting showcase that followed his virtuoso award-winning London/Broadway stage turn in Me and My Girl. His coal miner/wannabe movie star Bert Rigby is all-singing, all-dancing, all-laughing as he delivers dead-on impersonations of Fred Astaire, Gene Kelly, Buster Keaton and Charlie Chaplin -- plus delivers pizza, trims trees and copes uproariously with other "between-acting" jobs that plague Tinseltown hopefuls. The Reiner/Lindsay teamwork is a light-footed lark that you'd be a fool to miss.

Singing, dancing, prat falls, successes and failures. This movie is a hard to find treasure.
