About this movie

Javier Bardem stars in this unflinching, heartfelt story from the director of AMORES PERROS and BABEL. Uxbal (Bardem) is a dedicated father of two small children who is struggling to make ends meet. Balancing a day job overseeing illegal immigrants who sell counterfeit merchandise with off-hours work as a spiritual medium who channels the recently deceased, Uxbal has his hands full at home as well – with his wife, Marambra, in the throws of mental illness. But when Uxbal receives some shocking news about his own health, he is forced to rethink life, death – and everything in between – in this powerful, acclaimed tale of redemption from writer/director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu.

Whoever gave this movie anything less than a 5 is a Philistine and lacks the ability to comprehend genius at work. Alejandro Iñárritu's innovation and graceful screen play is only compounded by Javier Bardem's phenomenal, blue chip acting. Surely, a masterpiece beyond leagues. Hunker down and grab a cigarette to enjoy this heart-wrenching drama, only sharpened with accentuations of fantasy realism.
