À propos de ce film

"You can't tear your eyes away" (Entertainment Weekly) from this "wicked, psychosexual thriller" (Daily Variety) starring ACADEMY AWARD® WINNER Natalie Portman* and directed by Darren Aronofsky (The Wrestler ). Portman delivers "the performance of her career" (Vanity Fair ) as Nina, a stunningly talented but dangerously unstable ballerina on the verge of stardom. Pushed to the breaking point by her driven artistic director (Vincent Cassel) and the threat posed by a seductive rival dancer (Mila Kunis), Nina's tenuous grip on reality starts to slip away -- plunging her into a waking nightmare. *Actress, Black Swan, 2010

Whiplash with ballet! And more unnerving! Most uncomfortable watch in a long time, made me feel rather ill throughout. Still recommended viewing. Love Aronofsky, both this and mother! are tangential relatives or distant adaptations of famous texts or narratives, developing thick layers of psychodrama over top. Portman sweeps you away with a shrinking violet performance while teetering on (and gradually plummeting over) the edge of a total psychotic break. Truly devastating cinema, but absolutely required viewing for anyone who likes film.

This is one of the most hauntingly beautiful films I've ever seen. Apart from being completely brilliant, it features three of my all time favourite things...swans, classical ballet...and the music of Tchaikovsky.
