About this movie

An ex-mercenary turned smuggler (Leonardo DiCaprio). A Mende fisherman (Djimon Hounsou). Amid the explosive civil war overtaking 1999 Sierra Leone, these men join for two desperate missions: recovering a rare pink diamond of immense value and rescuing the fisherman's son, conscripted as a child soldier into the brutal rebel forces ripping a swath of torture and bloodshed across the alternately beautiful and ravaged countryside. Directed by Edward Zwick (Glory, The Last Samurai), this urgent, intensely moving adventure shapes gripping human stories and heart-pounding action into a modern epic of profound impact. This is a must-watch look into the dark world of human trafficking, slavery and child soldiers. It is brilliantly written and portrayed, and makes you think about how we as consumers have power to stop warlords and tyrants. Definitely not appropriate if you're looking for a fun action movie.

This is a movie you will buy and watch many times over. An interesting story with great acting and just the right amount of action and drama. Possibly Jennifer Connelly's best movie. She is sexy, serious and real.

Awkward moments, excessive action, pressured timeline... bizarre but worth a watch
