In this charming love story based on the best-selling novel, Saoirse Ronan stars as Eilis Lacey, a young Irish immigrant navigating her way through 1950s Brooklyn. The initial shackles of homesickness quickly diminish as a fresh romance sweeps Eilis into the intoxicating charm of love. But soon, her new vivacity is disrupted by her past and Eilis must choose between two countries and two men.

Thoughts, deeply felt emotion, conflict, the passage of time, the maturation of the characters and more are subtly yet clearly communicated to the viewer through gifted acting and intelligent cinematography. The dialog is saved for tension, wit, and character development, particularly at the dinner table. Eilis is a reserved, introverted young woman with deep emotional and intellectual intelligence. You'll know what's going on inside her head b/c you're riveted to her every expression. Ronan is amazing.

Saoirse has the ability to bring her world into yours. Excellent actress (lovely bones was another) Romantic, tearful, and I smiled from the beginning. That world was suddenly mine. Well deserved Emmys. She deserves a HUGE spotlight

For a guy who is not into love stories I have to admit this was very well done with the storyline and acting. And considering these were not very famous people playing the roles it was pretty impressive. My Irish wife and I very much enjoyed it.
