About this movie

Melissa McCarthy is masterful in the captivating account — based on a true story — of Lee Israel, a best-selling celebrity biographer in the 1970s and ’80s. When Lee (McCarthy) comes to the realization that she’s no longer en vogue, she spins her art form into a perilous web of lies, deceit and outright crime to get back on top.

I certainly wouldn't classify this as a comedy. It was sad and tragic. If I hadn't been expecting a comedy, I'm sure I would have enjoyed it more.

Very good movie. Everythings is good in this movie. Well played, good scenario, the way they bring us in her reality. The way they show us. Even a stong caracter can fall down... and can be fragile. And how it's hard to accept to be vulnerable. Interesting story.

Compelling story about a complicated person, which sets the viewer on a very conflicted emotional journey feeling both pity and disgust for the subject and her actions. It feels strange seeing McCarthy in such a serious role, but she portrayed Lee Israel in such a convincing manner.
