About this movie

The job's a cinch - Finisham Maternity Hospital has a giant stock of birth pills and all Sid and his gang, Cyril, Ernie and Freddy, have to do is steal them to make a fortune selling the haul. But first one of them has to get into the place and steal the hospital plans. And although he's far from keen on the idea, before he can say 'bra', Cyril totters into the hospital as a woman. The disguise is most effective. In fact, he's hardly had time to straighten his seams before he's being goosed by Prodd (Terry Scott) the groping gynaecologist and being mistaken for a new student nurse and checked into a nurse's quarters room with Nurse Susan Ball (Barbara Windsor). But if Cyril has problems, so has Finisham Hospital. Sir Bernard Cutting, (Kenneth Williams), chief surgeon and hypochondriac thinks he's changing sex and nothing Matron (Hattie Jacques) does can ease his mental turmoil. Visitors might be forgiven for believing the only normal thing about Finisham Hospital was the patients - were it not for Mrs Tidey, now weeks overdue and enjoying it, to the stress of her husband. Meanwhile, Cyril's fortunes are taking some alarming turns. Still trying to keep the amorous Dr. Prodd at bay he ends up in the limelight as a 'star nurse' when called upon to deliver film star Jane Darling's triplets during an emergency ambulance drive. But he does finally manage to put the heist in operation, but blowing the storeroom door wakes the entire hospital. Their getaway is a frantic chase around corridors and wards with Matron, staff and an army of Mums-to-be in hot pursuit. Cornered, Sid's still got a trick up his sleeve - it wouldn't do for the celebrated nurse who delivered Jane Darling's triplets was really a 'he'! Matron has no alternative but to let the gang go, in exchange for their silence. The outcome pleases everyone - especially Susan and Cyril, who have fallen in love, as have Matron and Si
