Do not watch this movie if you care about your happiness. The famous phrase Catch-22 is explained in the very first scene, and it is OK up to there, and draws you in to thinking it is an OK film. After that it quickly becomes psycho--weird highly-offensive. There were about a dozen times I wanted to turn it off, but thought "I want to know how it ends" so kept going, and highly regret this. If a director offends you, he will do so again, and worse than before, and If you want to know how it ends, skip to the end. Every single character is weird, and it plants in your memory sick scenes - a happy person is cut in half, a prostitute murdered for fun, 3-4 scenes repeat exactly the same for some unclear reason, a blood and guts scene that will make you want to vomit, distorting a father mother and brother visiting their dying son/brother. I never laughed once. Wikipedia calls it a "dark comedy. It was made in 1970 when movies were weird. It is a weird psycho movie.. I have been a WWII historian for 10 years, own two WWII C-47s, have flown cross-country in a B-25, crawling all over it, and spent a year in a hangar with one, yet hated this movie, but hated this..

Loved this movie. Typical Mike Nichols ...Not quite a comedy (the review says that it's a comedy), and very tragic. Crazy, I guess you'd say. But brilliant. I read the book and couldn't see how anyone could make a movie out of it bc it DOES "skip around", but Nichols did it. Kudos to him, and all the actors.
