About this movie

Written by Rolf de Heer and David Gulpilil as a collaborative project, CHARLIES COUNTRY stars Gulpilil as blackfella Charlie, who is getting older, and is out of sorts. The governments intervention is making life more difficult on his remote community, what with the proper policing of whitefella laws that don't generally make much sense, and Charlie's kin seeming more interested in going along with things than doing anything about it. So Charlie takes off, to live the old way, but in doing so sets off a chain of events in his life that has him return to his community chastened, and somewhat the wiser. 2014 Vertigo Productions, Screen Australia, South Australian Film Corporation & Adelaide Film Festival

A challenging story tracing Charlie's life. The contrast between traditional ways and their clash with the European's ways are made obvious. It therefore poses some interesting questions about the traditional owners of Australia, but does not seem to make any answers clear. The movie includes some brilliant shots of life in the Northern Territory - warts and all.

I love it because it gives you a really good insight to how aboriginal people are getting treated still in some parts of the country.. its sad but he makes the best out of a bad situation.
