Nobody could have imagined the impact that the striking Vianne (Binoche) would make when she arrived in a tranquil, old fashioned French town. In her very unusual chocolate shop, Vianne begins to create mouthwatering confections that almost magically inspire the straitlaced villagers to abandon themselves to temptation and happiness! But it is not until another stranger, the handsome Roux (Johnny Depp), arrives in town that Vianne is finally able to recognize her own desires!

Light-hearted movie about a chocolate maker and her daughter bringing good cheer and warmth back to a tranquil and strict village. Feel-good movie with French flair. Juliette Binoche is a classy chocolate maker who does things her own way. She at first has problems fitting in and the villagers regard her with wariness as she brings with her a daughter and no husband. She also does not go to church unlike all the other townspeople. She befriends the downtrodden and it is they who stretch would a helping hand to her while she indulges them in their favourite chocolate. The chocolate have many different and varied flavours, much like the hidden character of the outwardly ordinary townspeople. The movie is quite slow in developing the plot and takes a bit to warm up towards the end.
