About this movie

When Chris (Daniel Kaluuya), a young African-American man, visits his white girlfriend's (Allison Williams) family estate, he becomes ensnared in the more sinister, real reason for the invitation. At first, Chris reads the family's overly accommodating behavior as nervous attempts to deal with their daughter's interracial relationship, but as the weekend progresses, a series of increasingly disturbing discoveries lead him to a truth that he could have never imagined. This speculative thriller from Blumhouse (producers of The Visit, Insidious series and The Gift) and the mind of Jordan Peele (Key & Peele) is equal parts gripping thriller and provocative commentary.

I might be biased.. this movie was okay. I thought it was going to be a horror about how scary a group of people who don't relate to, know, or care about you can be. That racism would play in. Instead I got a sci Fi thriller. I've heard some people try and explain it to me, but I just can't shake that this is a dumbed down version of the movie I thought. That it needed to pull a shyamalan.

Super good movie. The tension and anxiety is a near constant throughout the movie and it comes to an amazing climax at the end. Love that theme and messaging. Anyone who doesn't recognize this movie is good, not whether they like it or not, but that it's good, clearly felt offended by the message which says more about them then the movie. Definitely a must watch.

It's basically Skeleton Key but from an African American's perspective. The foreshadowing was pretty obvious and I was able to call the twists less than halfway in. That dropped the excitement and made it just a casual watch. It's still a 'decent' movie... I'm not disappointed... But it lost its luster early on for me. Not bad; could have been better.
