Terrak B
I watched with no expectations and it didnt take long before it became apparent how terrible the movie and the story is. It is hard to imagine anyone accepting that in a dystopian future people think that 5 factions based on ridiculous traits (like smart 'brave' etc)was a good idea. Your stuck in that one faction and forced to stay away from your own family if they are in different factions. I mean it sounds worse then a dictatorship. Oh and lol about the jumping lunatics who claim to brave. Rubbish movie.

Not Me
So first of, is not as terrible as people will have you believe on the internet, but it is really nothing more than an average movie. Mostly the whole time the viewer is wondering if he/she's watching a movie with political messages or romance. the movie tries to be both and it does very bad job at delivering at this. Although it does get slightly better at the end, it takes way too long to get to interesting part like, explaining what being a divergent really means, or making clear whos the antagonist the whole time.

Trudi Brand
I suspect this movie has been toned down compared to the books to keep it in a lower category rating (M rather than MA15+) Unfortunately this has meant the removal of quite a few important elements from the books. The movie starts off really well with lots of contrast but as the movie went on I found the whole think took on more of a grey feel. I found Eric and Peter weren't as dark as in the books and think their characters needed more development. As it is, they come out a bit 'grey' as well. Given that this movie is aimed at Teens, it's probably not such a problem but if you want something with good character development you're going to have to look elsewhere. Despite the shortcomings, this movie made for an enjoyable evening with the family and we look forward to watching the next one together when it comes out.
