About this movie

Based on the 1960s British sitcom of the same name, this comedy follows the exploits of the part-time soldiers of the Walmington-on-Sea Home Guard during World War II. As the war nears its end, the platoon receives a visit from a beautiful female journalist just as they begin to suspect there may be a German spy among their ranks. The Walmington-on-Sea Home Guard may finally have an opportunity to impact the war. Directed by Oliver Parker, "Dad's Army" stars Academy Award-winner Catherine Zeta-Jones, Bill Nighy, Michael Gambon, and Toby Jones. Like many remakes, they should've left well alone. I took my dad (a life long Dad's Army fan) to see this for his birthday and left wishing we hadn't bothered... have laughed more at party political broadcasts. Unfunny, clunky script and about 90 minutes too long.

I'm a big fan of dad's army and when I heard about this I was very excited. Just watched it and wow so funny it's nice to have a fresh cast but still have those classic catchphrases. I hear all these reviews of people saying that it's tacky and blah blah bla but that's exactly what makes dad's what it is, and then I hear people saying it's not the same well of course it's not the same it's about 40 years since the original sitcom. This is a very good film :)

Excellent cast. Felt they simply didn't stand a chance with the terrible script. This really should never have been made. I turned it off after 35 mins. Couldn't suffer anymore of it. I'm a huge fan of the original series. Have the box set too. Avoid this sh*t.
