Daisy Kenyon, a commercial artist in Manhattan, must decide between two suitors: Dan O'Mara, a dashing, handsome lawyer who is already married, and Peter Lapham, a "nice guy" writer who is single. Though her passion for Dan is strong, she decides to marry Peter because it's the "right thing" to do. However, her marriage doesn't quell her desire for Dan. Shortly after her marriage, Dan gets a divorce and sets about wooing Daisy. She is sorely tempted and is almost persuaded to leave Peter for Dan, but Peter isn't going to give up his wife that easily. When the fighting between the men escalates, Daisy is so upset that she winds up in a car accident that is nearly fatal. In the aftermath, Daisy realizes that she truly loves the faithful Peter, not the philandering Dan.
