About this movie

When Texan cowboy Ron Woodroof is diagnosed with HIV, he is prescribed a highly toxic drug and given thirty days to live. Refusing to accept this death sentence, Woodroof taps into the world of underground pharmaceuticals and becomes a kingpin of an unapproved alternative treatment that is both restorative and life extending. Woodroof struggles with the FDA as he helps spread awareness of the government's misinformation, taking a stand against the politically corrupt who prefer to profit from the sick instead of aiding them in their recovery.

The movie and story are very interesting, but I found the first half difficult to watch due to the unsympathetic nature of the main character, Ron. It gets much better once the thread of the story becomes more developed and he starts cussing for a cause.

A difficult-to-face, but important, portrait of a period in time when fear & politics created the monster of AIDS and then vilified the gay population due to scientific ignorance and fear.

One of the better stories about aids not such a gay illness like everyone thinks smacks you in the face makes you open your eyes. This is much better than Philadelphia by far.
