Matthew McConaughey portrays the real-life character, whose self --interest is galvanised into something much more. Blindsided by his diagnosis of HIV and given 30 days to live, Woodruff's search for alternative treatments helped establish a way in which HIV positive people across the country could access his supplies. Great acting, but this is a libertarian fantasy of a movie which makes the FDA seem a lot worse than they actually were in that they were really trying to stop ineffective treatments, and they were not so heavy handed. The film shows, in effect, the beginnings of the alternative medicine industry.

No frills, no spills. What you have here is a good solid acting movie from McConaughey. Story - beginning, middle and end - at the right pace and in the correct proportions. How many movies do you watch and there is a massive middle? Well written, well directed, well shot - great work from cameramen to give it a realistic feel. This one gets a five - because it is up there. Captivated from beginning to end.
