In an award-winning central role, Björk stars as Selma, a Czech immigrant and single mother working in a factory in rural America. Her salvation is her passion for music. Coming from a Björk fan, the betrayals and charged emotion in this film are as hard-hitting as they are genuine. A breathtaking performance from someone who was otherwise at the time only a pop star. One of the rawest, heartfelt leads I've ever seen, and Von Trier's experimental form and direction only tops it off.
