About this movie

Director Tim Burton brings the cult classic series "Dark Shadows" to the big screen in a film featuring an all-star cast, led by Johnny Depp, Michelle Pfeiffer and Helena Bonham Carter. In the year 1750, Joshua and Naomi Collins, with young son Barnabas, set sail from England to start a new life in America, where they build a fishing empire in the coastal Maine town that comes to carry their name: Collinsport. Two decades pass and Barnabas (Johnny Depp) has the world at his feet...until he makes the grave mistake of falling in love with a beauty named Josette DuPres (Bella Heathcote) and breaking the heart of Angelique Bouchard (Eva Green). Angelique dooms him to a fate worse than death-turning him into a vampire, and then burying him alive. Nearly two centuries later, Barnabas is inadvertently freed from his tomb and emerges into the very changed world of 1972, a stranger in an even stranger time. MPAA Rating: PG-13 © 2012 Warner Bros. I like Tim Burton and Johnny Depp, but this movie wasn't all that great. The first 10 minutes seemed pretty promising, but the movie comes to a slow down after that. It wasn't a very funny movie with a slight chuckle now and then. I'm confused as to where Danny Elfman actually contributed to the music as his name was in the credits, but honestly I felt the movie had a distinct lack of music and I think that made certain moments weird or somewhat forgettable. If you've seen the commercial you have seen it...

I love johnny depp and some the other cast members . I like Tim Burton but the movie was not at all expected. I thought it was going to a least tell us what happened when the real show ended. This was waste of my time and money. Most of all a slap in face to original show's creator and cast members, i would not reccommend it to my worst enemy. Sorry for being so critital but i call it like see it and i am being honest:(

With such ripe source material, one would expect to find something to enjoy in this Burton twist on the titular TV show. Indeed, it seemed like this material was made for the cast and crew. And yet, Dark Shadows is somehow utterly devoid of any of the delicious fun of the campy series, and drags its audience slowly and painfully through unfunny gags and terrible narrative, achieving a type of real, slow-dawning horror that the fans of the original never deserved to have visited upon them.
