Before Ronnie can unravel the mystery of what brought his mother back to her homeland, she dies in a cult killing. As he uncovers a series of similar past murders, Ronnie's own inner-darkness come to light as all roads lead to the feared witch of Kolkata's insane asylum.

Darkness Visible is a welcomed addition to the supernatural horror genre. As an avid fan of horror/thrillers, I’ve seen my fair share of supernatural ghost stories and I know how saturated the genre has become with films that feel like they’ve already been done before. However, Darkness Visible has gone around that by moving away from the Americas and Europe and taking place instead in India. This gives the film so much more room to play with an added ability to dive into, and take full control of, completely unfamiliar territory (at least for a westerner like me). I had an absolute joy watching this film, what with its intriguing and captivating visuals, a story not rooted in gimmicks or cheap scares, and a very unsettling and eerie antagonist; it delivered and then some. The film brought an interesting twist to the genre, and with it, created new unsettling nightmares that set it apart and above many other horror films I’ve seen. I definitely recommend this movie if you want a story that feels different and new, or if you’re just in need of a good‘ol scare.

There is something special about the newest supernatural thriller “Darkness Visible” where set in Kolkata, India the main character Ronnie confronts and grapples with his past. He finds out that his mother has been apart of a dark and mysterious religious cult, that is suspected to be responsible for a chain of murders with symbols and numbers drawn in the victim's blood. Ronnie is flooded with what seem to be hallucinations and odd occurrences by seeing a woman in a purple robe constantly. This film will be a very important piece to see in the new year, especially for all the thriller addicts out there.

Although Darkness Visible is labeled as a supernatural thriller, the film also includes a murder mystery aspect. It follows Ronnie (played by Jaz Deol), as he travels to India to uncover a mysterious chain of deaths all tracing back to a witch. The storyline is completely unique, using the exotic Indian location and myths. As a fan of supernatural and murder mystery genres, Darkness Visible seamlessly captures the combination of both. I highly recommend Darkness Visible, for it left me intrigued and creeped out throughout the whole film.
