Lionel Barrymore, Edna May Oliver, Maureen O'Sullivan, Basil Rathbone and more join Fields and Bartholomew in portraying the eccentrics, cads and loving family of this film directed by George Cukor. David O. Selznick produced, insisting on an attention to Dickensian detail that included matching the sets to the first edition's illustrations. The result: one of the greatest page-to-screen adaptations ever.

You will never see such a large cast of famous actors and actresses in one movie. Not only are they some of Hollywood's finest, but Dickens is one of literature's finest. You have to see it at least once.

From the start an obviously bad movie: ill conceived, badly written and badly directed. A lot of my favorite actors wasted. Add a star for cast diversity.
