Dedh Ishqiya follows the poetic and dramatic journey of two poachers, Khalujaan (Naseeruddin Shah) and his nephew Babban (Arshad Warsi). They get away with stealing a prized royal necklace. But during a police chase, they get separated and meet months later at a palace in Lucknow, where Khalujaan is competing with Urdu poets to win the heart of a widowed heiress named Begum Para (Madhuri Dixit). While Khalujaan gets closer to Begum, Babban finds himself warming up to Begum's confidant, Muniya (Huma Qureshi), a brash, mysterious and sensuous young woman. But the story takes a turn when Begum Para gets kidnapped after she announces the person she wishes to marry.
