About this movie

Davis (Jake Gyllenhaal), a successful investment banker, struggles after losing his wife in a tragic car crash. Despite pressure from his father-in-law Phil (Chris Cooper) to pull it together, Davis continues to unravel. What starts as a complaint letter to a vending machine company turns into a series of letters revealing startling personal admissions. Davis’ letters catch the attention of customer service rep Karen (Naomi Watts) and, amidst emotional and financial burdens of her own, the two form an unlikely connection. With the help of Karen and her son Chris (Judah Lewis), Davis starts to rebuild, beginning with the demolition of the life he once knew.

These sort of movies are the one's I would give a miss as a rule, however, I started watching and found the M+M's letter writing campaign intriguing, especially as he had just had a life changing event and he gave his whole focus on what you would imagine as everyday minor inconveniences. Trying to figure him out myself as he was trying to figure himself out was quite a journey, admittedly I have to say I quite enjoyed it and glad I stuck with it or even given it a try in the first place, he carried the film I have to say in which was incredible acting in the lead role.

Feel like film makers just can't be bothered to make an effort anymore. This and many others just a load of mumbling, no atmosphere and hard work to watch.

A slightly predictable film of self discovery held together by an outstanding central performance by Jake Gyllenhaal
