Brilliant film, but certainly not a comedy. It's more of a dramedy. All characters seem to struggle to stay on top of things and failing miserably. The bankrupt shipowner, the washed-up actors, the slimy crook, the superficial, rich middle-aged lady, the silly blond, the 19year old longing for some big passionate love, it's all there. And the acting is delivered in a way that does not exist in modern-day films, a theatricality that I found extremely refreshing. Everyone plays their part believably and at the same time, us, the viewers, are kept in a safe distance. This film is both historically important and still relevant. A true, old-time classic. Loved it. I came here just because I needed an example of the Mid-Atlantic Accent and stayed for the show.
