The movie is not about Weisz's character and its not a story about forbidden love. Its about McAdams' character and her quest for personal freedom. The movie is tricky: it purposely distracts you from that and pushes Weisz to the front with McAdams always lingering in the drab background just like her clothes, always hiding who she is, what she wants. As we go on, "choice" and McAdams come to the spotlight. The viewer has a choice of which character to focus on. Subdued yet powerful. Brilliant.
