...because it has all the substance of dishwater! Its all just another allegory for high school (that actually includes the line "everybody fits in....except me...") Furthermore, it's so obscenely narcissistic, when lead girl is explaining how these factions work, she describes her own in such a saintly way, so everybody but her is the bad guy, and then she finds out she's special because she has all the hallmarks of an ordinary human. I call bull on this whole movie.

I'll not spoil the movie for anyone but, really, once it's done, think about why it happened for about 10 seconds and go: "actually, that was completely pointless". Because you will. Reasonable cast, above average acting but ridiculous story and huge chunks pulled right out of a teenage girl's diary.

Just an old school rip off. Nowhere near as compelling a character as Katniss, most of the story is a pseudo-psychological contrivance to promote Trish. Worth sticking through on a boring Sunday afternoon, but it lacks any sociopolitical insight or moral. What a shame when the story could have been a beautiful popular fable about the power of human diversity. But at every turn, in well set up scenes, the writers kiss their trade goodbye, making the whole thing a shameful waste that lacks the grit a pearly story needs. A fable has its meaning in the middle, not at the end! Consequences people! 2 and 3 will inevitably dribble away to a series of set pieces of beautiful people looking sweaty! Producers should have stayed in school a bit longer.
