When Dr. Lucille Teasdale, one of Canada's first female surgeons, fell in love with a charming Italian colleague, she never dreamed how much her life would change. Following him to the wilds of East-Africa, she finds her true calling caring for the lost, sick and dying in a world of poverty, tribal conflicts and civil war. Battling the most desperate circumstances, they train doctors and nurses, shelter thousands of refugees, and build a modern hospital.
