Witness the origin story of one of legend's most captivating figures in the action-adventure, Dracula Untold. The year is 1462 and Transylvania has enjoyed a prolonged period of peace under the just and fair rule of the battle-weary Vlad III, the prince of Wallachia (Luke Evans, Fast & Furious 6, The Hobbit series). But when Sultan Mehmed II (Dominic Cooper, Captain America: The First Avenger) demands 1,000 of Wallachia's boys -- including Vlad's own son -- become child soldiers in his army, Vlad must enter into a Faustian bargain to save his family and his people. He gains the strength of 100 men, the speed of a falling star, and the power to crush his enemies. In exchange, he's inflicted with an insatiable thirst for human blood that could force him into a life of darkness and destroy all that he holds dear.

Well, the plot was decent, a desperate prince turning into a blood crazed monster in order to save his kingdom. From there on, it was a little disjointed. I would deffinitly not recommend this movie for younger kids. It started off really well, but kind of left you hanging at the end. There was no real, clear conclusion.

Admittedly the competition has been pretty flimsy, but after the flurry of movies trying to put half-baked "fresh" and "hip" spins on a classic monster, it was good to have a straightforward originalist vampire film with a nod to the historical Vlad of Wallachia removing kebab that spawned the legend. If it wasn't following the massive tsunami of bullshit that preceded it, though, I may not have liked it as much as I did but as it stands this is the best vampire movie since Interview.

Sure, it's nowhere near the best film of the year, but it/s a darn good movie. Luke Evans is amazing, and makes the movie awesome all by himself. I don't know why the critics hated it so much. However, I would look forward to a sequel more if it has Dracula in the classic villain role he's supposed to be. That would be awesome.
