About this movie

Federal Agent Aaron Falk returns to his home town after an absence of over twenty years to attend the funeral of his childhood friend, Luke, who allegedly killed his wife and child before taking his own life – a victim of the madness that has ravaged this community after more than a decade of drought. When Falk reluctantly agrees to stay and investigate the crime, he opens up an old wound – the death of 17-year-old Ellie Deacon. Falk begins to suspect these two crimes, separated by decades, are connected. As he struggles to prove not only Luke’s innocence but also his own, Falk finds himself pitted against the prejudice towards him and pent-up rage of a terrified community.

As much as we appreciate Eric Bana's persona and acting ability I believe this attempt at recreating the perfection of Jane Harper's novel falls waaaay short. Disjointed at the best of times I would believe viewers would be left guessing at what really occurred at Kiewarra. And no expense definitely left short in the final scene. A really good, atmospheric slow burn story. The open, yet uniquely claustrophobic character of the Australian landscape stays with you - not the the extent of "Picnic at Hanging Rock" but nevertheless of that rare type. Supported by (on the whole) excellent acting and direction. Definitely recommended.

Almost perfect except there's a fundamental flaw towards the end when it explains HOW the murder happens....(can't give away too much) otherwise there are enough suspense to keep it going.
