About this movie

It is the 1990s, the tape-cassette is dying, CDs will soon be the rage and a regular arranged marriage will turn out to be a perfect mismatch. Prem (Ayushmann Khurrana) is a shy music buff who runs a tape recording shop in Haridwar. Sandhya (Bhumi Pednekar) likes to dance to the band tunes at her own wedding. He has nightmares about drawing a blank at his English exam. She is about to carve a niche for herself as a teacher.

But now, they are married and they are supposed to spend a lifetime together - and he is still trying to find balance on their scooter ride together. From overcoming his fear of the English language to dealing with an overbearing father, he discovers that his oversized wife, who he thought was a spanner in his spool, will actually lead him to something quite cool.

Prem (Ayushmann Khurrana) is persuaded by his family to marry for financial reasons to an overweight woman he doesn't find attractive. His new wife, Sandhya (Bhumi Pednekar ) is an educated woman who tries to make her marriage work, but Prem has no interest in so doing. They are persuaded to take part in the "Dum Lagao" contest, where the husband carries his wife on his back through an obstacle course, in so doing they reconcile. The premise of this movie is fantastic, but it just doesn't deliver. There is very little character development, less happiness, and an ending that is too sudden and not credible. Khurrana, who is too old for the role, wears a scowl the entire movie and plays his part one-dimensionally. Pednekar, in her first movie, is fantastic, giving depth to Sandhya, portraying believable emotions, and acting nearly flawlessly. Her performance is so good that she nearly saves the movie, but not quite.

The movie strikes a chord with its simple yet effective story and attractive cinematography. The tale is about how a newly wedded (and bickering) couple finds that goodness forms the basis of a life long bond and begets love. The story is peppered with good side plots like self realization, family feuds, silly old traditions/stereotypes etc. These come with a certain comic spin, and are quite entertaining by themselves. The ending could have been a bit more from what is offered, but I wouldn't mind sitting through the movie again. The lead actors and the supporting ones are tremendous and this movie is a tight slap for the nepotism loving, family name touting, masala movie makers.

Prem a Young zero size lad marries Sandhya an oversized woman..and how he hates his married life..and how he realizes the value of Sandhya forms the crux of the story..Ayushmann khuranna is nice as a man who gulps water seeing slim trim woman is perfect...Bhumi pednakar who allows Prem to do so is beautifully crafted and acted..her helplessness and longing for love from her husband is extremely magnificent..Direction, editing and songs and the locales of 90s is great..go watch it with your wife and know her importance...
