“Dunkirk” opens as hundreds of thousands of British and Allied troops are surrounded by enemy forces. Trapped on the beach with their backs to the sea they face an impossible situation as the enemy closes in.

A huge story woefully told. A movie where you constantly wait for something to happen & even when the occasional act of interest happens (such as dialogue, action or anything other than a human acting like a mannequin), it's so anticlimactic & nonchalant it's appalling. It honestly felt like a poor amateur dramatic attempt at doing an interesting movie. I struggle to see how people thought this was good or even 5*.

Worst interpretation of a tragic day I have ever seen, no way can a spitfire shoot down that many planes. If he had enough ammunition to do that the plane would never get off of the ground. Then go on to fly around the beach without fuel for as long as he did, NO WAY! and what happened to the dead soldiers that were killed on the beach, the beaches where strafed and bombed, did not show any of that.

This is the worst film I have ever watched - even managing to push the cliche-ridden Avatar into second place. I viewed it on offer for 99p and felt cheated. After only 20 minutes I was praying for the Germans to break through the Allied rearguard so this wretched film would end. Worst line (word) in any film ever? The naval officer looking out to sea at the end of the pier ... "What can you see?" ....... "Hope". Oh please ..... For me the film failed to tell the story ... and anyone who was not familiar with the Dunkirk evacuation would not be much better informed by the end. The aerial sequences were awful with gross disparities and inconsistencies in the height of the RAF aircraft. I could go on (and on) but like the film after 25 minutes ... you've probably suffered enough. I immediately watched the 1958 Leslie Norman version of this story ... and (allowing for it being 'of its time') it was an infinitely superior telling of the story and gave a far better sense of what it must have been like and even managed to convey the scale of the evacuation more effectively. Anyone know how I get my 99p back?
