When Barney Snow (Elijah Wood) finds himself in a hospital, he is confused about how he arrived there, since he has few memories. Believing that he is suffering amnesia from an accident, he tries to regain some of his past. Meanwhile, he befriends other patients, who are all young people with terminal illnesses, including Mazzo (Joseph Perrino). When Barney meets Mazzo's sister, Cassie (Rachael Leigh Cook), they fall for each other, making Barney even more desperate to leave the hospital.
