Il regista/sceneggiatore Francis Ford Coppola presenta il suo montaggio restaurato definitivo dell'ultimo film della sua epica trilogia de Il padrino, - Il padrino di Mario Puzo, Coda: La morte di Michael Corleone. Michael Corleone (Al Pacino), ormai sulla sessantina, cerca di liberare la sua famiglia dal crimine e trovare un successore adeguato per il suo impero. Il successore potrebbe essere l'impetuoso Vincent (Andy Garcia)... ma egli potrebbe essere anceh la scintilla che trasforma il sogno di Michael di passare a imprese legittime in in inferno di violenza mafiosa. LIl film, con audio e immagini meticolosamente restaurati sotto la supervisione di American Zoetrope e di Paramount Pictures, include un nuovo inizio e un nuovo finale, oltre a modifiche alle scene, le riprese e la colonna sonora. Il progetto che ne risulta riflette le intenzioni originali dello scrittore Mario Puzo e di Coppola per Il Padrino: Parte III e dà vita, secondo el parole di Coppola, a "una conclusione più appropriata a Il padrino e Il padrino: Parte II."

Valutazioni e recensioni

The restructured opening provides greater clarity than the original Part III, and the film certainly benefits from being trimmed. The story of Michael Corelone's inevitably doomed redemption is fascinating. Though it remains the least accomplished movie of the series, the other two both sit amongst the greatest ever conceived. The fact that it is not their equal does not detract from what is a moving, powerful instalment in its own right.

Incredibly disappointing. Without spoilers, let's talk about the substantive difference between this and Godfather 3. They are precious few, subtle and believe me, I wanted to be so generous about such a highly regarded trilogy. I just paid £13.99 for this and feel like asking for a refund. Pitiful

The final film in the trilogy didn't fare so well at the box office and to be fair, it really was the weakest of the 3 films. Saying that, I quite enjoyed it anyway. It'll be interesting to see the new cut (new start/end).
