About this movie

Walt Disney Animation Studios' ENCANTO tells the tale of an extraordinary family, the Madrigals, who live hidden in the mountains of Colombia, in a magical house, in a vibrant town, in a wondrous, charmed place called an Encanto. The magic of the Encanto has blessed every child in the family with a unique gift from super strength to the power to heal-every child except one, Mirabel. But when she discovers that the magic surrounding the Encanto is in danger, Mirabel decides that she, the only ordinary Madrigal, might just be her exceptional family's last hope. The film features all-new songs by Emmy®, GRAMMY® and Tony Award® winner Lin-Manuel Miranda ("Hamilton," MOANA) and is directed by Byron Howard (ZOOTOPIA, TANGLED) and Jared Bush (co-director ZOOTOPIA), co-directed by Charise Castro Smith (writer "The Death of Eva Sofia Valdez") and produced by Clark Spencer and Yvett Merino.

I loved watching this movie, even though there were some parts I felt needed to be a bit different. I loved Luisa and Isabela's stories, and Abuela's backstory. That mean said, at some parts I found the movie quite confusing. I like to get answers and not left being puzzled at things. I wish they went over the abilities of all the characters a bit more, as I think they were only labelled as being super strong or super pretty, and not expanding what their powers actually done. For example, Dolores. She can hear things such as an eye twitching. Does this occur as a thought in her brain, or is everything in her life just louder? She seems to be able to sleep at night, so, like Camilo, (the shapeshifter), can she adjust it? Or Luisa, who can whole buildings and bridges. Is her strength limitless? I would think it comes to a certain point where she is unable to lift things, such as the moon. And why exactly does Mirabel not get a gift, yet Antonio (child who understands animals) gets one after. My friends responded with ,''Mirabel has the power to bring her family together'' but if that is true, and that is her gift then why did she not get a door like the rest of them? I saw a theory online that Mirabel was like Abuela, who also didn't get a gift, and was going to be the one to lead the family once Abuela has passed away. That makes sense, but then why does Abuela get a room and Mirabel doesn't? What about Dolores keeping Bruno still living in the house a secret? She was so desperate to tell the others at the dinner table about Mirabel and the green glass shards, so why would she keep that quiet? Another point is the songs. The only ones I really liked and they got stuck in my head was We Don't Talk About Bruno (I absolutely adore Bruno), which had interesting lyrics and the theme was something I liked, and Surface pressure, which was especially catchy at the 'drip, drip, drip' part. The others songs... just never really said anything to me. Isabela's song was cool, but I disliked her character (even after her redemption) and I couldn't be bothered by it. One last thing, the three stupid village kids in it were so annoying to me. I don't know if it's just my impatience but their voices and their looks just make me want to punch the screen. Luckily they were only shown like 5 times so I didn't have to go through the pain often, but I hate them with all my heart. That was a really long review and people probably won't read it but that's just my view on the movie, in the end it's good but there are so many things unanswered and the soundtrack just isn't its best. This was definitely trying to move more into a pre teen movie but since Disney is Disney they still try and stay with kids. Don't read further unless you are a The Umbrella Academy fan to avoid confusion! One more thing- the amount of TUA stuff similar to this is quite amazing. Bruno is the same as Five, but weaker. Luisa and Luther are alike apart from Luther being way weaker and Luisa being extremely emotional, (not a bad thing). And c'mon, Dolores is named Dolores. Once I found that out I couldn't stop thinking she was a mannequin. Vanya, when playing her violin, can hear sounds like a heartbeat, really clearly. Dolores hears things such as an eye twitching, so, similar for the main power. Bruno also reminds me of Klaus, especially when Klaus has seen some ghosts. Review written by a teenager, so I hope you got a different perspective on the story. Have a lovely day! :))
