The year is 1942 and the Nazis are cutting a deadly swath through Russia. Under the leadership of Kruschev (Bob Hoskins), the citizens of Stalingrad are mounting a brave resistance, spurred by the exploits of their local hero, Vassili Zaitsev (Jude Law). An expert sniper, Vassili's deeds have become legendary - thanks to propaganda produced by Vassili's best friend, a political officer named Danilov (Joseph Fiennes). To stop Vassili, the Germans dispatch their best sniper, Major Konig (Ed Harris), to Stalingrad. When Vassili and Danilov both fall in love with a beautiful soldier (Rachel Weisz), Danilov deserts his friend, leaving Vassili to face his German counterpart alone. As the city burns, Vassili and Konig begin a cunning game of cat and mouse, waging a private war for courage, honor and country.

This movie is good on certain levels, it's one of the only films that shows the intensity of the battle for Stalingrad. The sniper action is amazing and I like the cast. The film takes a big dive by not being accurate when it comes to accents. It's really weird to have a German have an American accent and all the Russians have British accents. It would have worked much better if the Russians had a Slavic accent. I don't mind that it's in English but at least get the accents right.

Not a bad WW2 Sniper film at all. Loved the setup in the Sniper battle as well as the suspense of not knowing who was truly with Vassili and who wasn't. Certain things about the film don't quite mix though with immersion into a reality. I don't feel that it's an issue when Russians and Germans are speaking English, however, I do find that it breaks immersion when the Russians are speaking English as if they are straight from London, England; and the German Officer sounds as if he was raised in San Diego, CA in the United States. I feel that more care should've been put towards the actors using appropriate accents towards the nationalities of their characters. Having also read up on the actual story of the Sniper Battle myself, I'm personally glad that they changed the history a bit of how it actually went down. Makes for a more fulfilling tale, and a great historically based film. Very much enjoyed the Movie!

The movie was good, they could have done a better jon with more realistic German and Russian soldiers. All the soldiers spoke with english or american accents or bad russian or german accents.
